Tell us your latest news.

I’m currently working on the sequel to House Trap called Fiery Trap but I’ve been doing more reading than writing lately. I just finished a book called Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger and currently reading a non-fiction book called “How Starbucks Saved My Life” by Michael Gates Gill.

Who or what has influenced your writing, and in what way?

R. L. Stine, Dean Knootz and of course J.K. Rowling influenced me. The way they make their characters realistic and the way they weave tales that enthrall their reader.

When did you write your first book and how old were you?

I was around eight years old when I wrote my first story. It was really a picture book with words beneath it.

For those who are unfamiliar with your novel; House Trap, how would you introduce it?

House Trap is a YA suspense/thriller story about a studious teenage name Rachel Evans. Her life would never be the same once she stepped into the house of Alicia Hausefalle, the most popular girl in Wedds High. Rachel was there to tutor her. She never expected to meet two strangers who were ready to end her life. This story is for fans of R.L.Stine’s Fear Street, Lois Duncan and Christopher Pike novels.

Do you have plans for a new book? Is this book part of a series?

For now I’m still working on the Fiery Trap, the sequel to House Trap. I’m also working on a new series called “Christmas Series” Book one of the Christmas Series is still in the draft phase.

Do you have a favorite quote that you keep visible in your work environment to help inspire you?

I don’t have a visible quote at a work area because I don’t really have a permanent area that I work at since I have a laptop. Anywhere is my work area. I do, however, keep quotes saved in my laptop for a glance or two when I need that spark to keep on writing.

Did you learn anything from writing Rachel and what was it?

That’s a very good question. Writing Rachel taught me that life is about balance. It’s good to be driven and focus on your goal but at the same time having time for your love ones is also important as well. Time is so precious and short.

If you could introduce one of your characters to any character from another book, who would it be and why?

The one that comes to mind would be Rachel Evans and teenage Hermione Granger. I believe they would be best friends and totally understand the importance of education. I think Ron Weasley might irritate Rachel a bit and rub her the wrong way while Harry Potter might be a good acquaintance of her.

What is the single worst distraction that kept you from writing this book?

The one distraction that kept me from writing House Trap was my school studies. As for Zombie I Am series: Stained, the single distraction that kept me from writing it was writer block.

Beyond your own work (of course), what is your all-time favorite book and why? And what is your favorite book outside of your genre?

My all-time favorite book is Sphere by Michael Crichton. Why? Because it was suspenseful till the very end. I hope to write such a thrilling book in my lifetime. I don’t particularly favor a certain genre; I have a favorite book from each genre (well except from romance and western). My other favorite book is Pay It Forward because of its message and shocker that occurred in the third part of the story.

When asked, what’s the one question you always answer with a lie?

Do you like Transformers the movie? Yes, it was great is usually my reply. But really part one was okay, part two was terrible, and I still haven’t seen part three yet because of how terrible part two was. I can’t believe there’s a plan to make a part four. They can count me out from ever seeing it.

Where and when do you prefer to do your writing?

I don’t have a preference. I usually write when I feel a great idea comes to me but mostly I write at night.

If you could be any mythology creature, what would you be?

I don’t know…a phoenix maybe?

What’s the worst job you’ve had?

Mowing lawns

What is your favorite Holiday and why?

Christmas because I love what it stands for and the way people’s spirits always lifts up despite their personal dilemmas.

Rachel Evans is a sixteen year old overachiever who would take nothing less than to achieve her goal of getting into Dartmouth College. But Rachel’s life would never be the same once she stepped into the house of Alicia Hausefalle, the most popular girl in Wedds High School. Rachel was there to tutor her. She never expected to meet two strangers who were ready to end her life.

The thrilling book, House Trap, by Mike Mauthor is truly a heart-pounding adventure. When the high school overachiever Rachel is forced to tutor the very rude Alicia, she finds herself inside her home teaching her math. Suddenly the house is under attack and the home’s security not only traps the two girls and Alicia’s siblings, but also the intruders. The premise presents a story that is full of suspenseful action.

The plot of the book is realistic and Mike’s writing draws readers in to put themselves in the characters’ shoes. Every decision the two girls make will get readers to analyze it and asks the question, “What would I have done?” It is very thought-provoking. Here we have Rachel, who is very determined of going to her dream college. It is as if nothing else matters as she tends to disregard the people close to her. But inside the home and with its predicament, she feels regret towards the way she has been treating her family. This is one of the strongest theme in this book: Enjoy life because you will never know what tomorrow holds.

For a short story, every word contained in it felt real and full of thrills and suspense. Mike’s writing style is impressive and provided many descriptions that allow readers to fully understand the mindset of Rachel inside the home. The book is certainly a fast-paced thriller that delivers a few twists.
