Prodigy by Marie Lu Review

June and Day arrive in Vegas just as the unthinkable happens: the Elector Primo dies, and his son Anden takes his place. With the Republic edging closer to chaos, the two join a group of Patriot rebels eager to help Day rescue his brother and offer passage to the Colonies. They have only one request—June and Day must assassinate the new Elector.

It’s their chance to change the nation, to give voice to a people silenced for too long.

But as June realizes this Elector is nothing like his father, she’s haunted by the choice ahead. What if Anden is a new beginning? What if revolution must be more than loss and vengeance, anger and blood—what if the Patriots are wrong?

In this highly-anticipated sequel, Lu delivers a breathtaking thriller with high stakes and cinematic action.

The second book to the Legend series by Marie Lu, Prodigy, continues the story of June and Day after having escaped Los Angeles. The duo is trying to bring down an irreparable corrupt system that is backed by a military regime. It seems that the only way for this system to be fixed is to destroy it so that it may be restarted. The group who were responsible with helping Day escape, the Patriots, demand June and Day’s colossal support and phenomenal talent to overthrow the Elector and his regime.

The characters in this book are crafted with care and precision. They are vividly alive with full of personalities that moves the story plot along. The writing style of Marie Lu embodies beauty through its meaningful dialogue and action that pits you in the middle of it. Once the first page is read, it leaves an intoxicating need to continue until finished. The twists presented in this book will void any predictions established as the plot is building. Marie has a unique way of keeping readers compelled throughout and chooses the right moment to pull the rug right under the readers’ feet to produce a moment of creative writing. The plotline is solid and follows a steady pace. The ending to Prodigy is highly intriguing and nicely tightens up any loose ends, but leaves enough room for the story to continue. I am certain Marie will deliver another mind-blowing segment with the third installment.
