What was the greatest thing you learned at school?
To follow your dreams, believe in yourself. Several teachers over the years encouraged me to write. And it’s a dream come true to finally be a published author. I wish I could contact every one of them and let them know their efforts made a difference.

Is there such a thing as a formula for storytelling?
Hmmm, I think to a point there is. Every story starts with a concept, a grain of an idea. The author develops characters, weave them into a plot. There’s a natural flow to a story, a build up, a climax. So, in that sense, there is a formula.

In your new book, Harbour Falls; can you tell my Book Nerd community a little about the novel?
The best I can do is recite the short summary, otherwise I may give too much away:

Best-selling author Maddy Fitch, researching material for a new novel, returns to her hometown of Harbour Falls to investigate a disappearance that has haunted the tiny Maine coastal town for the past four years. Maddy soon discovers that the case has gone cold, but the prime suspect, Adam Ward, is hotter than ever. Now living on an isolated island, Maddy takes up residence near the very wealthy, very sexy Mr. Ward's home. As she begins to seek out answers, the mystery deepens, putting Maddy in jeopardy.
Lies, secrets, deceptions. Nothing is ever what it seems in Harbour Falls.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating Maddy?
She has an irrepressible knack for getting into trouble. Much more so than I had anticipated. It’s very true that when you write your characters they take on a life of their own.

Do you have a favorite quote that you keep visible in your work environment to help inspire you?
Not anything visible, but there are a number of quotes that inspire me. Mostly from the poems of Anne Sexton. Her writing is just so visceral. It makes me want to be better.

If you could introduce one of your characters to any character from another book, who would it be and why?
Ah, that’s a good one. I’d probably have Maddy spend some time with Mac from the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. I think Maddy could learn a lot from her and she’d probably pick up some good self-defense skills too.

What are some of your current and future projects that you can share with us?
I’m currently finishing up with the first draft of Willow Point, the second novel of A Harbour Falls Mystery series. It will pick up right where Harbour Falls leaves off. I’m also starting on a New Adult genre novel. I can’t say too much about that one yet, except that the two main characters are broken people who are learning to live (and love) again.

What decade during the last century would you have chosen to be a teenager?
I think the fifties would’ve been fun. Life seemed simpler, but maybe that’s just an illusion.

Most horrifying dream you have ever had?
I can’t really think of one right now. Thankfully, I’m not plagued by nightmares. I will say Maddy has a pretty scary dream in Harbour Falls.

When asked, what’s the one question you always answer with a lie?
I try not to tell lies, they’re too hard to keep track of. But if I had to choose something I’d say probably when people ask how you’re doing and you say fine. That’s not always the case, but everyone almost always says fine still. Right? Maybe I’m the only one. lol

If I came to your house and looked in your closet/attic/basement, what’s the one thing that would surprise me the most?
Let’s go with the closet. You’d be amazed at the number of jeans I own. I live in those things.

When was the last time you cried?
The other evening. I watched The Notebook for about the tenth time. That movie always gets me.

What is your greatest adventure?
I’ve done some adventurous things (lots of travel, went on some ghost tours, rode in a race car), but hopefully my greatest adventure is ahead of me.

Who was the last person you hugged?
My mom

Who is the first person you call when you have a bad day?
My boyfriend

Best-selling author Maddy Fitch, researching material for a new novel, returns to her hometown of Harbour Falls to investigate a disappearance that has haunted the tiny Maine coastal town for the past four years. Lies, secrets, deceptions. Nothing is ever what it seems in Harbour Falls.

A steamy novel that immerses the reader in an intricate storyline that will keep them glued till the very last page.

S.R. Grey’s debut novel, Harbour Falls, the first installment for the Harbour Falls Mystery series, follows Maddy Fitch, a best-selling author who is seeking inspirations for her upcoming new novel. Returning to her hometown of Harbour Falls, she looks for a way to ignite her writing and studies a mysterious disappearance that has troubled her old stomping grounds. Although the case has not gotten a hot lead for a long, she discovers that the case’s prime suspect, Adam Ward, may not be as cold. On a remote island where Adam Ward lives, she decides to take residence next door and begins her own investigation to seek out the truth that only uncovers a deeper mystery. She may very well be knocking on death’s door where deceits, mysteries, and shams reside.

There’s always something mysterious about coastal towns where most lighthouses are raised. It’s cold, windy, and dark environment are a welcoming party of mystery beyond anyone’s wildest imagination. Author S.R. Grey takes this notion and produces a story that is the embodiment of creepiness. It is not just the setting that engulfs the reader, but her writing style manages to get a hold of its readers as well. The descriptive texts provides magnificent imagery and commits to giving readers a story that will resonate well long after it is read.

The romance between Maddy and Adam is strong without making it over-the-top. The pair had moments that stand out and while she investigates further into the mystery, readers will feel that they are close to falling off their seats as the story progresses. I honestly had moments where I thought I had figured out what would happen next, only to realize I was following a path that is lesser in value than the actual one. An amazing story that has caught my attention and
looking forward to reading the next book.
