Was there a defining moment during your youth when you realized you wanted to be a writer?

I get asked this question a lot and wish I had an awesome eye-popping moment to reference. But no. The truth is that I never yearned to be a writer; the thought never occurred to me at all.

Why is storytelling so important for all of us?

Is it? It certainly has been important historically, when major events have been remembered and shared through stories. However, that’s not a function of stories anymore. I know a lot of people who have no interest in stories and prefer factual accounts of what’s happening in the world. A lot of us enjoy the escape fiction provides. I think stories allow writers and readers to explore ideas and possibilities that are limited in the real world. These ideas and possibilities may well open up unexpected doors and visions.

What is the best piece of advice you ever received from another author?

Don’t limit yourself.

In your new book, Initiation (Bonfire Academy #1) can you tell my Book Nerd community a little about it and why they should read your novel?

Initiation is an exploration into unrestrained base instincts. It was an adventure to write, as I let myself delve into areas forbidden by human morality, but normal within my paranormal world. Initiation is about Cordelia, a student at a prestigious prep school for paranormal students. This supernatural prep school is populated by international students from the most elite of society who are blessed—and cursed—by bloodlines of the most powerful families in the world. The rule is simple… Trust No One.

What part of Cordelia did you enjoy writing the most?

I loved writing her unrestricted, organic responses to situations.

For those who are unfamiliar with Quinn, how would you introduce him?

Quinn is Cordelia’s long-term boyfriend. He is a solid and loyal partner.

If you could introduce Jagger to any character from another book, who would it be and why?

What a fun question! And I am still thinking! LOL

What are some of your current and future projects that you can share with us?

I am currently working on Fusion (the fifth book of the Portal Chronicles). Next up will be the second book of the Bonfire Chronicles.

When asked, what’s the one question you always answer with a lie?

I can’t tell you that! :D

What’s the best advice you can give writers to help them develop their own unique voice and style?

Don’t try to emulate anyone. Just let your characters take over.

Who is the first person you call when you have a bad day?

I Facebook Al, Allie, and Anne-Marie— my rocks.

What is your favorite room in your home?

I love my family room. It’s cozy, warm, and a place to relax.

Who was your first boyfriend?

I must have been about seven. It was this little boy who always followed me home from school. I called him my boyfriend even though we never spoke.

Who was the last person you hugged?

Lauren (my younger daughter)

What is the one, single food that you would never give up?

Chocolate
