Melissa describes them in a way that does not feel artificial and makes them likable. The reactions they portray to the real circumstances they are faced with are very real and are what most people would do. Readers will appreciate the theme of this book and what it means to be strong and courageous in times when life seems lost and hopeless. The braveness shown by both Tess and Beau is a perfect example of being true to one’s self and keeping faith intact even when all else seems to point to end.
