Double Down by Jeff Kinney Review

Book Nerd Review by Jordan

The pressure's really piling up on Greg Heffley. His mom thinks video games are turning his brain to mush, so she wnats her son to put down the controller and explore his "creative side".

As if that's not scary enough, Halloween is just around the corner and the frights are coming at Greg from every angle.

When he discovers a bag of gummy worms, it sparks an idea. Can Greg get his mom off his back by making a movie.... and will he become rich and famous in the progress? Or will doubling down on this path just double Greg's troubles?

DOUBLE DOWN Quotes content from Goodreads

“OCTOBER Wednesday My parents are always saying the world doesn’t revolve around me, but sometimes I wonder if it actually DOES. When I was a little kid, I saw this movie about a man whose whole life is secretly being filmed for a TV show. This guy is famous all over the world, and he doesn’t KNOW it. Well, ever since I saw that movie, I’ve kind of figured the same thing is probably happening to ME. HOPE YOU CREEPS ARE ENJOYING YOURSELVES!” ―Jeff Kinney, Double Down

“...the brain is like a muscle, and if you don't exercise it by reading and doing creative stuff, it'll get weak and mushy.” Jeff Kinney, Double Down

“it turns the shower scene was a lot harder to film than i expected”  Jeff Kinney, Double Down

“with their mouth open they’ll eat an average of five spiders a night, which is kind of believable if you think about it. Another time Rodrick told me that it’s dangerous to wake someone up when they’re sleepwalking. I thought there could be a chance he was actually telling the truth, because I’m pretty sure I heard that one somewhere else. ZZZZZ” Jeff Kinney, Double Down

This is my second Diary of a Wimpy Kid book I've read. The book was very interesting. I like how the begging starts. Greg thinks his life is filmed. Later on he just forgets about it.

Greg was my favorite character. Rowley was pretty funny too! Greg's mom really wants him off video games. Greg also joins a band. He plays French Horn. He only wanted to join so he can go to a party. I can't wait to read my next one.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is one of my favorite series to read. Double Down is my favorite from the series though.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid author Jeff Kinney didn’t grow up wanting to be a children’s author. His dream was to become a newspaper cartoonist, but he wasn’t able to get his comic strips syndicated.

In 1998 Jeff came up with the idea for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, a story about a middle-school weakling named Greg Heffley. Jeff worked on his book for almost eight years before showing it to a publisher in New York.

Jeff Kinney was born in 1971 in Maryland and attended the University of Maryland in the early 1990s. It was there that Jeff ran a comic strip called “Igdoof” in the campus newspaper, and he knew he wanted to be a cartoonist.

However, Jeff was not successful in getting his comic strip syndicated after college, and in 1998 he started writing down ideas for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which he hoped to turn into a book. Jeff worked on the book for six years before publishing it online on Funbrain.com in daily installments. To date, the online version of Diary of a Wimpy Kid has more than 80 million visits, and is typically read by more than 70,000 kids a day.

In 2006, Jeff signed a multi-book deal with publisher Harry N. Abrams, Inc. to turn Diary of a Wimpy Kid into a print series. The first Diary of a Wimpy Kid book was published in 2007 and became an instant bestseller. Just a year later, more than 100,000 copies were in print in the United States alone. With each subsequent book, in-print numbers continue to grow exponentially both in the U.S. and abroad. There are now more than 180 million copies of the series in print worldwide.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series has been a fixture on the USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. The series has remained on the New York Times bestseller lists since the publication of the first book, for more than 450 weeks total, and more than 350 on the series list. The books are currently available in 61 editions in 52 languages.

Since initial publication in 2007, the series has gone on to win many regional and national awards around the globe including two Children’s Choice Book Awards and six Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards for Favorite Book. Jeff Kinney was named one of Time magazine’s most influential people in the world. In addition, three movies based on the book series have grossed more than $250 million internationally. A new film based on the books is set to release in May 2017.

Jeff Kinney is also the creator of Poptropica, which was named one of Timemagazine’s 50 Best Websites. He spent his childhood in the Washington, D.C., area and moved to New England in 1995. Jeff lives with his wife and two sons in Massachusetts, where they own a bookstore, An Unlikely Story.

  4. Falling and hitting my cheek against a brick wall while trying to catch a Rapid Transit Train was my frightening moment. Then I sat 10 minutes deciding whether to turn around and go back to the hospital. I ended up with TMJ, had a skull x-ray, saw an ENT, my dentist for TENS treatments, then TMJ specialist and finally Physical Therapy where I made faces in a mirror to get my jaw back in alignment.
