Guest Post with Sierra Kincade

Photo Content from Sierra Kincade

Sierra Kincade lives in the Midwest with her husband and son. When she’s not writing naughty books, she loves eating chocolate cupcakes, binge-watching cable series, and singing loudly in the car. She wholeheartedly believes that love stories are real, and you should never choose a partner who doesn’t make you laugh.

A few of Sierra’s favorite things:

Bad boys with dirty mouths – English Breakfast tea with two packets of Sugar in the Raw – any movie or show with a choreographed dance routine – cinnamon toast – kids who say funny things – friends who raid her pantry without asking – bootleg jeans – making lists – old Garth Brooks songs – and of course, massages.

WHAT FICTION MOST INFLUENCED YOUR CHILDHOOD AND WHAT EFFECT DID THOSE STORIES HAVE ON MORE?

I read a ton growing up—the result of having a mother who majored in children’s literature in college. I was a shy kid, always with a book in my hand, and always with a daring adventure in my mind. Books allowed me to do all the things I was too afraid to do, but once I reached high school, things changed.

Now there is a huge market for young adult books, but there wasn’t much for my age group then. The high fantasy books didn’t hold my attention, and I wasn’t much into horror, like the Stephen King books the other people I knew were getting into. I ended up turning to the books my mom was always trying to hide from me—romance novels by Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts. I started disguising the covers with paper bags, like I did for my other school reading, and found myself immersed once again in a whole new world, one with heroes and sassy heroines and love.

It was everything I’d been looking for.

Still shy, those love stories gave me again that courage to dream that someday someone might see beyond my glasses and braces and want to know the real me. They changed the way I acted with people—becoming braver and more willing to live like the strong, independent women I was reading about. When I started writing seriously in college, I knew I wanted to relive that rush of a first kiss, so I put all of that angst and sass into my stories. I created women who have secrets, or who are often misunderstood, and the kinds of men who surprised me and swept me off my feet—men like Mike, who are hot, but also sweet, gentle, and honorable. As long as I’m writing stories, I’ll write about those kinds of men and women, in hopes that they can transport a reader to that same happy place they take me.

TEN REASONS TO READ MORE
1. Hot single dad
2. Hot single mom
3. A slow burning romance
4. A lot of chemistry between the sheets (Ooh la la!)
5. An ex-husband involved with the mob
6. A debt that must be paid
7. A sharp pair of scissors
8. Feathers, hot glue guns, and sequins! (For crafts, of course! Get your mind out of the gutter!)
9. A cheerleader costume, pulled out of storage (Not for crafts. Your mind may return to the gutter now.)
10. A wedding of two of my favorite characters ever from the Body Works series

Amy has kept her distance from men after her sleazy ex took everything from her—everything but her daughter, Paisley, whom Amy would do anything to protect. She’s learned to keep her guard up, but it’s getting harder and harder to do around a man like Mike, whose penetrating gaze leaves her speechless. Mike is unlike any man Amy has ever met. He’s patient, kind, a loving father, ripped, and, amazingly, seeming way into her. Still, Amy makes it clear that she has no intention of the two of them being more than friends. But when threats from her past put Paisley in danger, Amy finds that more with Mike just might save her life…and her heart.

EXCERPT
The way he looked at her made her whole body come alive. Even in the dark she could feel his stare, peeling away her clothes, making her breath come faster. She was wearing a T-shirt, and leggings, and boring underwear, but she felt sort of sexy.

She walked toward him, and maybe it was the dark that made her brave, or maybe it was how safe and strong she felt after a night in his arms, but she rose on her toes, and kissed the open spread of his shirt collar, where the strong muscles of his shoulder met the long cords of his neck.

His abs hardened instantly.

I’m doing that to him, she thought. I’m turning him on.

She watched his throat work to swallow as his hands found her waist. Minutes ago they’d been asleep, this room as calm and peaceful as her dreams, but the air was changing now. The space between them was charged, she could feel it on her skin, making her ultra sensitive. His eyes stayed on her, reading her every movement.

“Tell me something you like.” Her gaze followed one of his hands as it slid down over her hip. She unbuttoned his shirt, one piece at a time, until she could spread her hands over his thin undershirt.

“I like your mouth,” he said a little roughly, and leaned down to take her lower lip between his. Her hands gripped his shoulders for support as the heat sizzled down her spine.

“I like the way you feel.” His thumb rubbed along the top of her hip and her breath released in a shudder. Part of her couldn’t believe he still wanted to touch her like this. He was still, to her, that secret she watched through her kitchen window.

“I like how you smell.” He nuzzled his face into her hair and inhaled slowly.

Everything she knew about intimacy was tipping on its side. This wasn’t the calculated game she knew. This was slower, hotter, more…consuming. She could barely think, and that worried her, because she didn’t let herself lose control. That’s when you gave away your power. That’s when you got hurt.

“We’ll go slow,” he promised, as if reading her mind. “What if I just kiss you awhile?”

She nodded, still struggling to keep her wits about her.

“You tell me when it’s too much.” His hand wrapped around her lower back and pulled her closer, so that their bodies touched, and his hardness rested against her belly. She sighed in relief at the physical proof that he desired her.

When he kissed her again, she felt the world sway, and then the floor disappear beneath her bare feet. His mouth was so soft against hers, coaxing her lips open, drawing her tongue behind his teeth. She held onto his shoulders, bowed over so that he could accommodate her height. As his mouth found that place on her neck, below her ear, she gave a small whimper.

“That,” he growled softly. “You like that, don’t you?”

She nodded, because she couldn’t speak.

“Can I touch you?”

Her breath tumbled out. “Do you have a condom?”

“I’m just going to touch you,” he said.

Her brows pinched together. It felt like a bad idea, like they should have been prepared for more given the hurricane brewing inside her body, but she murmured her consent, and trusted him.

His hands drifted down her spine, over her thin, cotton shirt, and he pressed his thumbs into the tense muscles in the small of her back. Her body seemed to go slack, and she arched even closer to him.

“Right there,” he said. It was as if he was taking notes.

His thumbs circled around her waist, and found a ticklish spot above her panty line. She gave a little groan, rotating her hips against his in a way that made him shudder.

“You have no idea what you’re doing to me, do you?” he said.

She wished he would tell her. If it was anything like what he was doing for her, it had to be incredible.

Like before, she felt that strange bravery returning to her, and she moved her hands around his neck, down his chest. She kissed his jaw, slowly, cautiously, experimenting as he was. Learning what his body needed. And when his breath went ragged, and his hands tightened on her waist, excitement tingled through her.
