Trinity Faegen Author Interview

Photo Content from Trinity Faegen

Trinity Faegen wasn’t always a writer. She had an illustrious career as a Campus Cop in college, led many children astray as a camp counselor, and decorated Christmas trees for sweet, and notsosweet, little old ladies. She loves metal and rock, the Rocky mountains, chocolate cake and college football. Mostly, though, she loves to write. Trinity lives in the outback of Texas with her husband and a mean cat.

Why is storytelling so important for all of us?
I think storytelling is a fundamental instinct unique to humans, a way we communicate that sets us apart from the other animals. It’s entertainment that can teach and enrich, an ongoing history of our humanity.

What’s one thing that readers would be surprised to find out about you?
I’m not religious. Christian and spiritual, but not religious.

For those who are unfamiliar with Jordan, how would you introduce her?
Jordan is the First Daughter; only child of the current President. Since her mother died, she’s taken on some of the roles of First Lady, greeting State visitors, bringing national attention to certain nonprofit organizations, and speaking on behalf of her father at various events. She’s smart and a natural born leader, President of the Student Body and generally liked and admired. She’s gone out with the same guy since she was fifteen and considers him her best friend. Matthew is who she turns to when she’s frustrated with the pressures of being the First Daughter. She’s kind and serious, and her deepest regret is not being able to stop her lifelong friend, Holly, from committing suicide when they were sixteen.

Do you have a favorite quote that you keep visible in your work environment to help inspire you?
“Artistic success is not measured by what you get – but by what you give: whispers of truth, captured on paper, dispatched from the heart.”

Which character have you enjoyed getting to know the most over the course of writing The Mephisto Series?
Key. I liked making him such a hardnosed cold fish in the first book, and when I wrote the second, it was like peeling away the layers of an onion, discovering who he really is. Oh, I had a vague idea of what makes him tick, but as the story unfolded, he surprised me with his depth and capacity for love, not just for Jordan, but for his brothers.

If you could introduce Key to any character from another book, who would it be and why?
Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre. I think he’d appreciate visiting Thornfield Hall, close to the moors in England where Key loved living in the 18th and 19th centuries. Rochester is a man who sees a chance for happiness and breaks all the rules to have it. Key never breaks the rules hoping for happiness because he knows it would be fleeting and there would be the devil to pay – literally.

Where is the best place in the world you’ve been?
Xian, China, where the terra cotta soldiers of Emperor Xin were discovered. Standing at the edge of the excavation pits, looking at all those life-sized figures, each with a unique face, knowing they were made 300 years before Christ – mind-blowing. I felt very insignificant and humbled. Close second would be London. I love historical romances and seeing all the places I’ve read about in books my whole life was marvelous.

When asked, what’s the one question you always answer with a lie?
“How are you?” Everything can be in the toilet, but I’ll smile and say, “Fine.”

What’s your most missed memory?
The night I won RWA’s RITA award for Best First Book in 2006. It was surreal and a highlight in my career and my life.

Who was the last person you hugged?
My husband. We hug a lot.

What's the worst summer job you've ever had?
Cocktail waitress at a restaurant. The tips were bad, hours long, and I had to wear the tackiest uniform. Also, drunk people. Bleh.

When was the last time you cried?
September 25, when The Mephisto Kiss was released. It was a happy cry. Very emotional, this book thing.

The eyes never lie. No one’s eyes are darker than Eryx. Not even the Devil’s.

When Jax and Sasha first see Jordan Ellis, they know she is no ordinary teenager. She’s the daughter of the President after all, but she’s also Anabo – a descendant of Eve.

What they don’t know is that Eryx plans to kidnap Jordan and force President Ellis to pledge his soul. If Eryx’s plot succeeds, the consequences would be catastrophic.

But the Mephisto brothers do know about Jordan’s secret identity. And for one of them, she could be the match that leads to their soul’s salvation.

Now it’s a desperate race against time to save Jordan and prevent Eryx’s haunting eyes from discovering her true identity.

A thrilling story of romance, danger, and intrigue, THE MEPHISTO KISS continues the marvelous mythology that began in THE MEPHISTO COVENANT.

Trinity Faegen’s The Mephisto Kiss is the sequel to The Mephisto Covenant. This time around, the focus is shifted from Jax onto big brother Key (Kyros). When the dark evil Eryx plots to kidnap President Ellis’ daughter in order to force the President to pledge his soul, it may yield more consequences that already thought. Jordan, The President’s daughter, is an Anabo, a descendant of Eve. This thrilling story goes on full speed when the Mephisto brothers set forth on saving Jordan before Eryx discovers Jordan’s secret identiy.

One aspect that readers will admire is how Trinity is able to use and reconstruct mythology and place them in a world that seems so intricately and cautiously fashioned. There are no gaps in between their world and the real world. Everything seemed to fall into place seamlessly. The characters that grace the pages are absolutely adorable, likeable, and well-rounded. Their interactions with each other further and strengthen the story plot. Trinity’s writing style is like that hand that leads you on the crosswalk of a street. Her writing is mesmerizing and takes you right in the middle of all that’s happening and delivers full doses of emotionally poured events. The ending brings a knock-out heart-wrenching that will touch all of your emotions. The Mephisto Kiss will clutch on to you right from the beginning and will continue to tighten its grip until the end.
