Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke

Clear Your Shelf Giveaway Hop

You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…

Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town…until River West comes along. River rents the guesthouse behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard. Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more? Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery...who makes you want to kiss back. Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.

Blending faded decadence and the thrilling dread of gothic horror, April Genevieve Tucholke weaves a dreamy, twisting contemporary romance, as gorgeously told as it is terrifying—a debut to watch.

  11. When i was 12 for something. It was for a distant cousin I didn't know. His wife and kids lived with us and they were cool, but I didnt know them or the man before. I just sat down and stayed still and quiet like my folks asked me to. It was boring until I saw the family living with us cry, then it was sad.

  49. My first funeral that I can recall is when my Grandfather passed away. I going to college in the Philippines, and they sent him home from California because the family wanted their time to mourn him before they put him to ground. Family from all over the Philippines came to pay their respects.

  50. The first funeral I went to was when I was about 6 but it wasn't someone I knew, so it was an odd experience to see a stranger in a coffin. I didn't quite understand. My grandfather died and was buried in a National Veteran's Cemetery when I was 13 and that hit a lot harder. There's been quite a few deaths in the family since then. :(
