Avery Flynn Interview - The Wedding Date Disaster

USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling romance author Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip.

She fell in love with romance while reading Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory books. It wasn’t long before Avery had read through all the romance offerings at her local library. Needing a romance fix, she turned to Harlequin’s four books a month home delivery service to ease the withdrawal symptoms. That worked for a short time, but it wasn’t long before the local book stores’ staffs knew her by name.

Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their ahem other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.

Follow Avery on Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest. Like her on her Facebook page or friend her on her Facebook profile. She’s also on Goodreads and BookLikes.

Join her street team, The Flynnbots, and receive special sneak peeks, prizes and early access to her latest releases!

Also, if you figure out how to send Oreos through the Internet, she’ll be your best friend for life.

What inspired you to pen your first novel?
I knew the kind of book I wanted to read but I just couldn’t find it. My kids were a lot younger then so after they went to bed, I would write. It wasn’t easy and I wasn’t sure I could do it but I did.

Tell us your latest news.
Well, I have a super fun rom-com called The Wedding Date Disaster out and it is a blast of a read. There’s an evil twin (who may not be so evil), a three-legged fox, and over involved family, a wedding out on a ranch, enemies to lovers romance, giggles galore and a heroine who just wants to make it through her sister’s wedding without blowing her cover and letting everyone realize that her life in the big city isn’t all that she’s told them it is.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
I love talking to readers! They are so amazing and I am blown away that they’re willing to share their limited free time with me by reading one of my books. Also, we usually have the best time giving each other book recommendations. Really, can a TBR pile be too big? I think not!

What do you hope for readers to be thinking when they read your novel?
I want readers to get done, put the book down and say “Damn, that was a good time!”

In your new book; THE WEDDING DATE DISASTER, can you tell my Book Nerd community a little about it?
Oh! Let’s see. It is a real trope-a-rama of a rom-com! The hero is a twin who is also a billionaire. He and our heroine are total enemies even though she is his twin’s best friend. Plus, there is slow dancing, only one bed, and road trip shenanigans!

What was the single worst distraction that kept you from writing this book?
The internet. Without a doubt.

What part of Hadley did you enjoy writing the most?
You know, she’s really relatable. How many of us have fudged telling others about our reality a little bit to make it seem a little better than it may be at the moment? It’s hard to be vulnerable—especially when it seems like the entire world is doing AMAZING on social media. Plus Hadley is the type of woman who always knows the right thing to say at the right moment. Oh, how I wish I had that!

If you could introduce one of your characters to any character from another book, who would it be and why?
Lucy Kavanaugh is hands down one of my absolute favorites. She makes her first appearance in Butterface, gets her own romance in Muffin Top and has a part in Tomboy, Parental Guidance, Awk-Weird, and Loud Mouth. I love her so much I keep finding reasons to get her in more stories.

What’s the most ridiculous fact you know?
Cows have four stomachs. :)

What according to you is your most treasured possession?
It would have to be my books. I have weeded my library out a few times and it is DEVASTATING.

Best date you've ever had?
When my husband took me to tango lessons. I am a horrible dancer but I love to do it anyway.

If you wrote a journal entry today, what would it say?
Dear Diary, this time I mean it. I’m really going to stick to keeping a journal this time. (Narrator: But she would not because she never does.)

What event in your life would make a good movie?
I am the most boring person ever so I don’t know if any of it would but there would definitely be lots of jokes because the only way to make it through some days is to laugh!

Which incident in your life totally changed the way you think today?
Having kids changed a lot for me. It definitely made me start thinking of the future more. I have three kids and the first is going to college next year and I am still in shock about that.

What is one unique thing are you afraid of?
Horses. I know, I know but have you seen the size of their teeth?!

What was the best memory you ever had as a writer?
My first Romance Writers of America I went to I got to help with the literacy signing and Kristan Higgans was just the absolute best and nicest.

Hadley Donavan can’t believe she has to go home to Nebraska for her sister’s wedding. She’s gonna need a wingman and a whole lot of vodka for this level of family interaction. At least her bestie agreed he’d man up and help. But then instead of her best friend, his evil twin strolls out of the airport.

If you looked up doesn’t-deserve-to-be-that-confident, way-too-hot-for-his-own-good billionaire in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Will Holt. He’s awful. Horrible. The worst―even if his butt looks phenomenal in those jeans.

Ten times worse? Hadley’s buffer was supposed to be there to keep her away from the million and one family events. But Satan’s spawn just grins and signs them up for every. Single. Thing.

Fine. “Cutthroat” Scrabble? She’s in. She can’t wait to take this guy down a notch. But somewhere between Pictionary and the teasing glint in his eyes, their bickering starts to feel like more than just a game…
