Book Two Sneak Peek: The Falcon's Feather by Trudi Trueit, author of the Explorer Academy series

Where is the most unlikely place on Earth to drop a surfer from Hawaii? How about the frigid coast of Iceland!

That’s the great thing about writing fiction. You get to decide these things.

The Falcon’s Feather picks up where The Nebula Secret leaves off, right as the students first set sail aboard their classroom ship, the Orion. Of course, they’ve got their assigned mission, but Cruz is also on his own quest to find the second piece of his mother’s cipher by decoding the mysterious clue she left him. This leads to exploring an important world landmark … and to a very dangerous situation for Cruz and his friends.

Another reason I took the crew to the North Atlantic, was to develop Cruz’s friendship with the character Bryndis, a fellow student in Team Cousteau who is from Iceland. Once on land, she is instrumental in helping Cruz navigate this new and challenging terrain. (Because of her, Cruz also has to navigate some tricky new tween-age emotional territory!) As you will see in book two, we raise the stakes, deepen the relationships, and keep up the fun!

Thanks for coming along on this behind-the-scenes look at my new fiction series and all the cool, real explorers, scientists, artists, code masters, inventors, and global locations that help bring it to life! We’re so excited that Explorer Academy: The Nebula Secret went on sale last week and is now available wherever books are sold. And here's a sneak peek at book two, The Falcon’s Feather, available next March. Enjoy!

Adventure, danger, and a thrilling global mission await 12-year-old Cruz Coronado as he joins an elite school for explorers.

Cruz leaves his tranquil home in Hawaii to join 23 talented kids from around the globe to train at the Explorer Academy with the world's leading scientists to become the next generation of great explorers. But for Cruz, there's more at stake. No sooner has he arrived at the Academy than he discovers that his family has a mysterious past with the organization that could jeopardize his future. In the midst of codebreaking and cool classes, new friends and augmented reality expeditions, Cruz must tackle the biggest question of all: Who is out to get him, and why?

Readers can get in on the excitement with puzzles and codes embedded throughout.
