After the death of Cinder's adoptive father, his wife blames her for his death and has nothing but hatred towards Cinder. Her step-sisters aren’t exactly the type you would want sisters for. The plot takes off once Cinder uncovers the secrets of her past. Armed with this information, she sets forth on a mission to find out who she really is. Meanwhile, she has caught the eye of the handsome Prince and a doctor who may know a thing or two about what she is.
Marissa’s character development of Cinder is simply amazing. She is this cyborg but yet she has problems that the average person faces each day. The choices she makes are similar to what a person would actually do and is always proactive when she knows what she wants.
The world that is built for these wonderful characters is absolutely astounding. Every aspect of their world is like a mystery that readers will want to know why certain things are the way they are. While it is expected for book one to not uncover everything, Marissa does a wonderful job of keeping readers’ interest levels at peak at all times. A unique twist on a familiar story, equipped with astonishing writing, with unforgettable characters, Cinder is sure to be a must-read for any book lover.
